Leopard geckos are originated from many Asian countries such as India and Pakistan, and other countries in Middle East such as Afghanistan. The weight of adult leopard geckos can be 60 to over 100 grams. They can grow to lengths of 8 to 12 inches in captivity. As leopard geckos are terrestrial, they live in the ground. They are nocturnal, and are active at night, during which they hunt insects for food. They can live up to 20 years with proper care.

Leopard geckos need certain necessary things to stay healthy and happy. Provide their shelter with enough humidity in order to help them in shedding their skin off properly and easily. For example, shed box, full of sphagnum moss, is quite beneficial for leopard gecko.

Another distinctive trait of leopard geckos is that they mostly have fat tail. It is the part of their body where they store their food in times of food scarcity, enabling them to maintain healthy diet. A fat tail of leopard gecko is a sign of being healthy. Few necessary things that should be provided to the geckos include heat source and light. It is also essential to have gradient temperature for this lizard type. By gradient temperature, we mean, having a warm end and a cool end of the internment or enclosure, which will allow the geckos to regulate their body temperature. This will help in maximizing the life longevity of leopard geckos.

Leopard geckos are not different from any other reptiles as they also have the tendency of carrying salmonella and other infectious diseases. Therefore, it is very important for the pet owners to wash their hands thoroughly every before and after handling them or their habitat contents. This will help in preventing the spreading of diseases that they might be carrying.
